Who We Are

The Downers Grove Area Branch was founded in 1949 and is composed of members from Darien, Downers Grove, Lisle, Westmont and Woodridge.  We are college graduates or full time college students who are also homemakers, hardworking professionals, full and part-time workers, married, single, young, old and from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
We are involved in studying local and global issues, increasing self-development, interacting socially, using their education to benefit women and society. There are approximately 100 members in the Downers Grove Area Branch waiting to welcome you.

National Recognition
Our branch has been recognized nationally by the Association as well as statewide by AAUW Illinois, Inc., for our efforts in raising the awareness of our communities on the problems of gender inequities and sexual harassment in the classroom. We have been active in promoting AAUW's Public Policy agenda to legislators and the public through our extensive voter education program

Used Book Sale
For 43 years, the branch has conducted an annual spring Used Book Sale. Funds are contributed to the AAUW Educational Foundation which supports reentry education, project grants, and fellowships. We also sponsor several Back-to-the-Books Scholarships for local women annually.

Membership
Membership is open to college graduates. Affiliate membership is open to undergraduate college students. If you live in Darien, Downers Grove, Lisle, Westmont, or Woodridge, the Downers Grove Area Branch would welcome your membership
