Dare To Dream |
Inspire * Encourage * Motivate * Empower
Atrévete a Soñar ¡Edúcate! (Dare to Dream: Get Educated!) is a one-day conference for Latina middle school girls. In 2009, the first year, Latina middle school girls and their mothers and/or mentors attended the conference on the Elmhurst College campus. We focused on the personal, professional and financial value of education in general and higher education in particular.
Inspiration: Keynote speaker: Dr. Lourdes Ferrer, an ELL/Hispanic Academic Achievement and Parental Involvement specialist.
Encouragement: Latinas share personal career stories
Motivation: Develop your game plan
Empowerment: High school and college Latinas share life in school
Mother-Daughter Support:
Attendees and their mothers were introduced to DuPage mentoring programs. Atrévete a Soñar: ¡Edúcate! works actively with the DuPage Regional Education department as well as local school boards, middle and high school principals, teachers, counselors and social workers to ensure continued assistance and tracking through the year.
